She earned worldwide recognition and admiration by giving the people of the world one of their most remarkable moments in the past of sport - scoring the first ever perfect ten bar asymmetrically, at the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. And in the year 1976, Nadia Comaneci would go on to record six more perfect 10s and became one of the most youthful Olympic gold medallist. She did more than draw worldwide attention; she also helped put Romania onto the map. In achieving a result which was impossible to achieve, this sporting icon brought gymnastics to the forefront of the world's interest. Furthermore, it altered view of the female athlete in society. Her impact on the Olympics was so significant the two movements which are the toe-on motion as well as the release move is designated in her honour. Both have been rated as difficult to the highest level. Apart from the Olympics, she showed remarkable results at the World Championships and European Championships also, making her the living legend of her time and one of the greatest gymnasts that the world can ever achieve.
